In Kennedy Town, while the MTR station was still under construction, a mural of a train stretched across the wall before me. The station did not yet exist, yet its image had already settled into the neighbourhood. The phrase “A City State of Mind” read less like decoration than intention. I stood watching the drawn train meet the actual street. The sketch implied motion, while road signs, pavement, and a parked car held the present in place. The future arrived first as an image.
